What is website hosting and why do I need it?

You need website hosting to make your website accessible and operational on the internet, space is allocated on a web server to store your website files.

Website hosting is setup on a virtual server dedicated to Weblinks and provided by SysGroup Internet Solutions. Weblinks administer the web server and maintain all site settings on behalf of customers.

Weblinks offers the first year of website hosting FREE of charge, there will then be an annual charge of £72+VAT.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is the address of your website that people either type in a web browser address bar or link to via a search engine, website or email.

You can never own a domain name, instead you pay for the registration to use it for one or more years. When the time comes to renew, you have priority over other people's applications.

If you don't have a domain name, Weblinks can register and administer one for you. You can use the Whois website to find available domain names: https://who.is/

What about content for my website?

Good photography can be a key element to the success of a website. Commissioning a photographer or taking photos yourself will meet your specific requirements. Alternatively, there are many excellent stock photography websites like: Pexels that offer free stock photos, royalty free images and video or iStock where you can buy credits or subscribe for premium-quality stock images and photos.

Video can be used to engage visitors on your website in a simple and effective way. You don't need to invest in any equipment if you have video on your phone.

What is a 'call to action' on a website?

A call to action (CTA) on a website is an interactive element designed to encourage visitors to take a specific action.

This helps with search engine ranking to increase not only the number of visitors to your website, but also the quality of visitors who are looking for something that is relevant to their search.

We can also utilise Google Search Console tools to help with ranking and analysis. This requires a personal or business Google account affiliated to your website.

Will I need a Privacy Policy?
